The Elephants Ear 'Rubra' is a much-loved family member of the Alocasia tribe and is prized for their ability to create an impactful focal point, be it on a sheltered patio or indoors.
These beauties have been designed to grow to point upwards to the sky, revealing their deep purple undersides which are their main attraction. As with all Elephants Ear houseplants they can grow into large specimens, adding to their tropical charm.
These are definitely some of the easier Alocasia to grow as houseplants andthrive happily indoors if provided with the correct care and attention, creating that much desired tropical look. These beauties offer a remarkable depth of colour and will make the ultimate statement plant if placed on its own or will add texture, tone and variation to a perfectly curated plant corner.
Provide your Elephants Ear "Rubra" houseplant with a warm brightly lit location but be sure not to expose it to direct sunlight as this can damage the glossy textured leaves. This enchanter is also very fond of high humidity, so if you have a warm bright bathroom, this will be a great location.
Pair with a planter of choice, be it a bold statement to draw in onlookers or a contemporary simplicity to add a touch of elegance, this gorgeous plant will look good however it is dressed up.
Please note: Elephants Ears can cause digestive discomfort if eaten, keep out of reach of children and pets.
CAREINSTRUCTIONS Follow these care instructions to keep your Elephant's Ear 'Rubra' happy & healthy.
Water: Keep soil evenly moist, but not saturated, and ensure that the drainage is good. During winter reduce watering and allow the plant to dry out slightly. Light: Bright, indirect light, keep away from direct sunlight. Humidity: Enjoys a humid environment and good airflow. Normal room humidity should be fine but will enjoy a bright bathroom. Fertilize: Diluted balanced feed every two weeks, Spring to Autumn. Avoid feeding in winter as this can lead to weak leggy growth.
