The Radisson Collection, a premier 5-star Cape Town hotel, sought to elevate the guest experience at their newly renovated Waveside Café. Following a high-end interior redesign, the space required a specialist in commercial biophilic design to "green" the environment.

The brief was to create a vibrant, living atmosphere that felt both lush and tranquil. The client granted us creative autonomy over plant selection and color palettes, with a specific request for a 360 degree aesthetic featuring hanging greenery and tabletop accents.

The Challenge: Solving Complex Interior Design Hurdles

Our approach to selecting the hotel plant designs was rooted in collaborative consultations and a site-specific strategy:

• Site Analysis & Interviews: We conducted multiple site visits to map sightlines and light levels. We interviewed managers and staff to understand the daily "flow" of the café to ensure our layout wouldn't disrupt service.
• Iterative Prototyping: Originally, we considered standardizing the plant types. However, after "in situ" testing, we realized the space demanded variety. We pivoted to standardizing the planter palette instead, and varying with diverse plant species types, to  provide visual texture.
• Structural Integrity: We collaborated with the on-site maintenance teams to ensure our hanging installations and heavy mid-level planters were structurally sound and safe for a high-traffic public space.

The "Bold" Execution: We opted for a layered vertical strategy. We installed large-scale floor specimens for grounding, mid-level ferns for density, and cascading species from the overhead frameworks to create a multi-layered "canopy" effect.
