Leca (lightweight expandable clay) is a fabulous substrate to use in semi-hydroponic setups or for use as an additive to your potting soil. It helps improve both drainage and moisture retention, as well as aerating your potting medium, preventing compaction. Ideal for helping your plants developed healthy lush roots.
This is also a wonderful lightweight product to use in wall mounted terrariums as an alternative to pebbles for your drainage layer.
As a substrate on its own in Semi Hydro, Leca has added benefits as being PH Neutral, will not break down readily, is anti-fungal and insect resistant.
In a rotary kiln, Leca is formed by heating and firing clay at temperatures up to 1150°C, forming a lightweight expanded clay. A hard ceramic shell surrounds a porous core, transforming clay into lightweight ceramic granules.
