Grow the iconic Bird of Paradise with this easy seed kit. Strelitzia reginae is one of the most recognisable ornamental plants in South Africa, admired for its dramatic flowers and bold tropical appearance.

This rhizomatous shrub grows to around 1.5 metres tall, forming clumps of large, attractive basal leaves that create a striking garden feature even when not in bloom. The plant gradually multiplies over time and can be divided during spring and summer.

The flowers are a vivid combination of blue and orange, shaped like the head of a bird, which provides the plant its well-known name. Flowering from summer through to autumn, these spectacular blooms are also highly prized as long-lasting cut flowers.
